Fresco NewsThe Son Gonna Rise in a Mile.

Last week kept Rob, Joyce and I hopping from one gig to the next, but the excellent performances put in by the performers and seeing the music going public turn out for the occasions served as a regular reminder for why we bother to do it; at the risk of redundant recollection from newsletters long past, thank (all of) you. For the trouble, here's a few new acts for you to peruse for the week (Dec 7 - Dec 13):

  • Monday: The rotating trio of Viking Mondays stays fresh, with drummer Robbin Harris orchestrating the crews for a night of experimental dynamics (9:30PM)
  • Tuesday: Open Mic leaves you some space to try the stage; join for a spell (9:30PM)
  • Wednesday: The Soul Crusaders recreate Organ trios of the 60s (9:30PM)
  • Thursday: Salsa Caliente latinizes jazz with quick paced Hispano/Cubanismo (9:30PM)
  • Friday: The Rickard Malmsten group, highlights the Swedish bassist in his genre of contemporary jazz with Wilson Lam, Jim Schneider, and Al Gordon (10PM)
  • Saturday: We've got a private party for Bonetable and Trivia house legend, Adrian Furby
  • Sunday: Chill out at Fresco, with the after hours music pros from around town (9:30PM)

The matter of trivia.
Up from last week:

  1. Q: [Film and Lit.] Describing it as "the Nineteen Eighty-Four for 1984" after switching the story from a look into the possible future to a look at the present day, director Terry Gilliam created what dystopian film based on the Orwellian classic despite never having read the book?

    A: Brazil
  2. Q: [Film] This 1999 indie crime thriller set primarily in Boston's Southie district was shot on a budget of $6 million USD in a total of 32 days by writer/director Troy Duffy after numerous production / studio delays and issues with funding. What was the name of the film?

    A: The Boondock Saints

And awaiting the preponderance of your answers:

  1. [Arts and Music] Releasing his first album under a pseudonym with which it was eponomously titled before using his own name on the second, by what name is singer/songwriter Clarence Greenwood better known as?
  2. [Bohemianismo] Originating in the more conservative canton of Neuchâtel than where it is usually consumed, what occasionally psychoactive spirit was named after the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and the Moon?

Catch ya next week, if not sooner.

in refinement - program is active at the register, please mention OSS. At the moment we're only collecting information from potential applicants that think they'll be up to the (unannounced) standards based on the above. Suffice it to say, it'll be something like "verifiable nontrivial commits to projects with any license recognized by the Open Source Initiative" with the rules subject to change as we work out what seems within the right spirit. Joining does include one free geek drink in addition to the usual discount (ever taste a Blue Screen of Death?).
