Fresco NewsMy flag boy told your flag boy "I'm gonna set your flag on fire!"

For the book of the year of 2009, there is little left to write. Looking to the end in phoenix like style now, in the manner of speeches for the soon to be reborn phœnix, let me be brief ;) (Dec 14 - Dec 20):

  • Monday: Viking Mondays lead by Robbin Harris brings experimental jazz (9:30PM)
  • Tuesday: Open mic gives you a shot, or a chance to hear others on it (9:30PM)
  • Wednesday: The Soul Crusaders are your source for Organ Trio sounds of the 60's in HK (9:30PM)
  • Thursday: Salsa Caliente fuses Caribbean thought with jazz diction for fast moving Latin music (9:30PM)
  • Friday: Henry Chung inflames in with the Spontaneous Combustion for blues with Ram Cheung, Ah-Hong, and Anthony Fernandes (10PM)
  • Saturday: The Peter Scherr band returns with special guest Ted Lo on the keys, Chris Cuzme on tenor sax, and Al G on drums (10PM)
  • Sunday: Chill out at Fresco (9:30PM)

Trivia, and its ilk:

  1. Q: [Arts and Music] Releasing his first album under a pseudonym with which it was eponomously titled before using his own name on the second, by what name is singer/songwriter Clarence Greenwood better known as?
    A: Citizen Cope
  2. Q: [Bohemianismo] Originating in the more conservative canton of Neuchâtel than where it is usually consumed, what occasionally psychoactive spirit was named after the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and the Moon?
    A: Absinthe (named after Artemis)

And for the freshly born week:

  1. Before the song was remade for the 1988 film Rain Man, rumor has it that this French Creole inspired song partially served as coded signals between groups of slaves around the time of the American civil war; what song tells us of warring grandmothers?
  2. Despite the near brush with disaster, what task does Arthur Dent set the Sirus Cybernetics Nutrimatic to calculating to which is produced a product almost, but not quite, entirely unlike what is requested?

Next week we have a special Christmas celebration if you're in town with us, and a musically incorporated balance of the week.

  • Open Source Discount Membership rules:

in refinement - program is active at the register, please mention OSS. At the moment we're only collecting information from potential applicants that think they'll be up to the (unannounced) standards based on the above. Suffice it to say, it'll be something like "verifiable nontrivial commits to projects with any license recognized by the Open Source Initiative" with the rules subject to change as we work out what seems within the right spirit. Joining does include one free geek drink in addition to the usual discount (ever taste a Blue Screen of Death?).
